Umthi Initiatives
Umthi [úm̩ːtʰí]
noun: tree
language: Xhosa
Trees provide us with many benefits necessary for survival, including clean air, filtered water, shade, and food. They also give us hope and insight, and courage to persevere – even in the harshest conditions.
Trees teach us to stay rooted while soaring to great heights.

Cigarettes butts are plastic and poison.
The biggest plastic pollutant on the planet is cigarette butts.
Umthi supports Clive Amsel’s art, a silent protest against cigarette butt pollution.
His installation has been in some of the most beautiful places in South Africa and plans to take the concept all over the planet.
We will be planting in the Baviaanskloof mega reserve area, Paarl and George
